Project Overview

The Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) — one of the largest and most progressive Islamic organisations in Nigeria and West Africa — engaged Envostructs to construct its central mosque complex at Isolo, Lagos. Known for its emphasis on Islamic education, community service, and progressive values, NASFAT required a mosque that reflected both religious dignity and organizational standing. The Isolo mosque serves as the primary gathering point for NASFAT members in the district, hosting daily prayers, Islamic education programmes, and the Society's community activities. The complex includes the main prayer hall, ablution facilities, and an administrative block.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenges

  • Designing a dignified Islamic prayer space that met NASFAT's standards within the available project budget
  • Prayer hall quality — natural ventilation, acoustics for Quranic recitation, and appropriate floor finish for prayer
  • Phased construction to allow partial use of the ablution block while the prayer hall was being completed
  • Foundation design on the Isolo plot, which had variable fill material from prior site use

Our Solutions

  • Close collaboration with NASFAT's building committee, incorporating traditional Islamic architectural elements within the budget framework
  • Prayer hall optimized for cross-ventilation, acoustics, and Italian tile floor finish appropriate for prayer
  • Phased programme with early ablution block handover to enable use while prayer hall construction continued
  • Trial pits to map fill conditions, with pad foundations designed conservatively on confirmed bearing material
