Lekki Free Zone — Roads N5 & E6A

Design and construction of internal roads N5 and E6A within the Lekki Free Zone — Nigeria's premier industrial and logistics hub on Lagos' eastern corridor

Project Overview

The Lekki Free Zone — a 16,000-hectare industrial and logistics hub on Lagos' eastern corridor — is home to Nigeria's flagship Lekki Deep-Sea Port, major manufacturing facilities, and international industrial tenants. Envostructs was engaged by the Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC) to design and construct two key internal road corridors: Road N5 and Road E6A. These roads form part of the zone's permanent internal network, serving industrial plants, warehouses, and logistics operations within the free trade zone. The roads were designed for extreme heavy-vehicle loadings — accommodating port vehicles, oversized industrial equipment, and the demanding operational environment of an active port and manufacturing estate within the Lekki peninsula's coastal reclaimed terrain.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenges

  • Designing for extreme heavy-vehicle loadings — port vehicles, factory trucks, and oversized industrial equipment
  • Construction on coastal reclaimed land — managing weak subgrade conditions on the Lekki peninsula's sandy/alluvial soils
  • Coordinating construction around active industrial operations without disrupting the zone's ongoing development
  • Drainage design adequate for Lagos' intense coastal rainfall on low-lying reclaimed land

Our Solutions

  • Heavy-duty pavement design with deep sub-base and base course layers for port and industrial vehicle loads
  • Ground improvement works — compaction and sub-base strengthening to stabilize the reclaimed coastal land subgrade
  • Phased construction plan separating works zones from live industrial and logistics operations throughout
  • Comprehensive storm drainage network designed for 1-in-25-year storm event on the coastal low-lying terrain

Key Features

Industrial-grade heavy-duty road pavement for port and factory traffic
Reinforced sub-base and base course on reclaimed coastal land
Roadside drainage channels and storm water outfall system
Road markings, kerbs, and signage to industrial estate standards
Wide carriageway for oversized industrial vehicle movements
Junction design for articulated trucks and heavy goods vehicles
Street lighting at key intersections and access points
As-built documentation and infrastructure handover package
